People of the Forest’s mission is to restore biodiversity by regenerating ecosystems and equipping individuals and communities with the training and knowledge needed to be effective land stewards.
Reforest Films partnered with the project by documenting the planting work being done. The intention is to show the very intimate collaboration between the Yawanawá who have an uncompromising relationship to their ecosystem, and the agroforestry experts who are bringing resources and knowledge, while ensuring the project remains indigenous led.
Reforest Films also supplied camera equipment and mentorship to a young filmmaker, helping advance his photography and videography pursuits and tell his people’s own story through their own eyes.
The project is a multi-year endeavour that is ongoing, with a goal to extend to home gardens and aquaculture in 2027.
